Anatomia Brazylii: Overdose IV
One of the main reason that inspired me to start this blog is certainly the ever-underrated Overdose, and this album in particular.
It's stays somewhere in the middle road - it abandons the attempts at creating melodic Power Metal, and starts going towards the realm of Thrash. The compositional strength increased again, and there is audible more space and freedom in the performance. The songs are meticulously arranged, and again we receive the topics of social ills, albeit the atmosphere is getting darker and stuffy.
There are only few remnants of the previous optimism, and slowly the bitterness creeps in. It's perfectly represented by the opener "Sweet Reality".
"OH SWEET REALITY, YOU BREAK MY HEART
YOU DON'T NEED TO LIE TO ME NO MORE
OH BITTER REALITY, YOU DESTROY MY MIND
YOU CANNOT ENSLAVE MY THOUGHTS NO MORE"
But for a contrast, we sometimes receive something like "Your Way":
"DON'T CARE, IF THEY POINT A FINGER ON YOU
STAND TALL, YOU'RE SOMEONE YOU'RE NO FOOL
JUST NEED TO BELIEVE IN YOU"
And that encapsulates the dichotomy of the album. It's not afraid of being heavy in the sound, but it still is capable of being lighthearted in parts, in order to not suffocate the listener. But for the last time, as both the trends and the world started changing, which Overdose would also reflect.
