The Upstarts: Toxemia
For some reason, I kept an eye on these delightful scamps. I myself wasn't really sure why, as they did not look much for being killer, but I do admit that they did have some unexplainable spark in their eyes. And again, my intuition led me correctly.
Then suddenly, out of nowhere, after 7 years of silence, Toxemia decided to remind about themselves, but in a surprising manner! Enough of the banality, simple third world performance. Grindcore elements GTFO as well.wcześniej. This time we get a pretty mature production that will stand the test of time.
It's not easy to blabber about music, so I'll try to explain it to you, as if you were my fren:
"dude, imagine some ancient Incantation, somewhere around their beginnings, but without their rawness and clear modern production. Add some song structures and riffs like in Immolation, but somewhere between "Here in After", or "Close to a World Below", but slower and more methodical. Envelop it with highly ritual, occult-satanic feel without entering the Black Metal realm. Numerous types of vocals, which I can't compare to anyone, without presenting certified standards. And maybe that's the best factor, man - notable voice, which doesn't try to ape the masters. Some of the riffs might resemble to you Autopsy, Winter, Morbid Angel or even Necrophagię, but idk, just some loose associations 'n' stuff. The band gloriously build the tension and create mystical aura, which they strengthen with incantations and atmosphere, as if you were sittin' in a room, that got hazy due to all of these candles and incense."
And that's how I would summarize this album. It's certainly not "retro" as some of the unimaginative reviews want to make you. Nope, it's fully modern, fresh take, with some self-consciousness. And that it's eclectic? Well, what isn't? But it's certainly my new favorite.
