Anatomia LTU: Anubi
Lithuania, Lithuania, dasvidanya... Baltic states are generally a mystery. Not many souls dare to visit them, nor anyone bothers to check what was going on in the underground. Ironically, this also gives an opportunity to create something uinque and original, without prying poseur eyes, and unwanted guests, especially from Poland, as Lithuanians are not fond of us. But it just happens that I, a Polish guy, managed to find such one, absurd, amateurish, pagan project.
Anubi, because that's how this little gem is called, is quite a tough nut to crack. The vocals are neither spoken, nor sang, nor growling. It featrues plenty of non-Metal elements, like sax, piano, violins, keyboard, accordion, and sampling.
One could just go the easy route and label it simply as Avantgarde Black Metal. Not so fast, though. It doesn't have satanic overtones, but rather are more akin to Ritual-Pagan flavor (there's a difference I assure you). As a point of reference, the easiest comparison would be with Master's Hammer from Czechia, but not the early one, but the decades later. Then again, the Czechs were self-consiously verging on the parody, while Anubi is completely serious about themselves. Mysticism and forest atmosphere. The music is both beautiful and mournfully sad, as usual in the Metal genre.
It would be totally rad to get such jewel to my collection, alas it's probably too obscure, to be easily found. I assure you that Lithuania hides much more similar masterpieces, and you can count on me that I will cover it in the future.
