Doppelgangers: Ghost
Doppelgangers is a series dedicated to unearthing forgotten bands, who share the name with the more famous equivalents.
There used to be a glorious time, when the most known band called Ghost in the world was the one from Poland. You can also imagine my surprise, when I frequently used to find reviews of the above album in Spanish language. Maybe I am exaggerating, but I feel like the South Americans really dug that music, especially in Mexico.
In Poland it's also considered a cult release. Suffice to say that it was re-released twice, with the second version having additional DVD, so a person could not only listen, but also see how the band was performing.
The career also was going well for a while, despite numerous obstacles that life threw at them, like mandatory millitary service, lack of proper rehearsal room, or the lack of beer. They made such huge impression that Nuclear Blast themselves distributed their album across the Europe, while the band opened for Cannibal Corpse and Morbid Angel. And then, suddenly, something broke and the band split-up. Sure, there were some attempts at reunions, but it didn't affect their discography.
All this gibber-gabber, and I haven't written anything about the music itself. It's an elite eclectic Death Metal, but with a touch of morbid Doom Metal, and having a sharp, technical razor. The cover itself delightfully showcases the surreal, one of a kind atmosphere.
I myself eagerly spin this little plate from time to time, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone, who has yet to try it. Afterwards, you'll agree that the real Ghost can be only one!
