The Art of Metal: Zdzisław Beksiński

CLICK FOR POLISH

Today I will write about a very important Polish artist, Zdzisław Beksiński, whose works were / are being stolen by Black Metal "artists" all the time, even after death.

Mr. Beksiński, in spite of his colleagues and the artsy clique, prefered noisy guitar-oriented music, rather than jazz, and was inspired by it, when he was creating his art, which should be notable, but also obvious when you look at his art. An interesting trivia is that Vader wanted to have his art (back when he lived) for his debut, alas Earache went the easy route and just picked Seagrave (easily one of his worst works).

Beksiński would probably be forgotten and rememberd only by Poles if not for the fact, that aforementioned Black Metalheads started to steal his works for their cover art (of course without any regard for copyright). Nowadays, I've seen discussions about who was better: Beksiński or Giger? For the sake of this blog I will not give my opinion about this matter.

The style is amazingly original, iconic even. A feast for eyes, with post-apocalyptic landscapes, extincted civilizations, demons, and out of this world surrealism. There are themes of war, metaphysics, spiritual and so on. Who hasn't seen any of these works, should do themselves a favor, and just google it.

The fate of Mr. Beksiński wasn't too kind. His apprentice, who was a drug addict, mugged and murdered his master, to get money on the next fix. There is a bad Polish artist, Artur Rojek, who made a tribute for Mr. Beksiński, but I would prefer if Mr. Rojek stopped singing.

Such a sad fate. Below, you will see the interviews, instead of me being miserable and boring you to death. If you don't know Polish language, well, you better start learning because it's a language of the future (you can also turn on the dubbing or whatever):
