The Art of Metal: Andreas Marschall

Recently, I got lazy, and I still don't have the mojo back, so for this week exclusively, I will release another batch (in english only, to save time) about the greatest Metal artists of all time.

Andreas Marschall is a German artist (hände hoch! ausweis kontrol) and he is known for his works with Blind Guardian.

Look at him, he does look like a serious businessman. No jerking around. He mostly did Power Metal stuff, and he deserves the credit for:

Running Wild, Hammerfall, Immolation, Kreator, Rage, Sodom (mostly),

but the most of all, he contributed cover for the best-selling album of Obituary - The End Complete.

That album sold like fruitcakes, 600k in T-shirt sales alone. Apparently, it's the third all-time best selling Death Metal album after Morbid Angel - Covenant, and Deicide - Deicide. 4th is Cannibal Corpse - Tomb of the Mutilated, if you're curious. AFAIR, the 5th belonged to Sepultura - Arise. So yes, allmighty CC lost to Obies. But over time, CC started selling in more than a 1 million amount per album, so in the end, it doesn't really matter.

Andreas has a very unique way of portraying scattered stones, and the logo he did for Obituary (two dragons eating each other) became a best seller on its own. I wonder if it made more money to him than all these Blind Guardian covers he did over years.

Marschall is very good in portraying the desolate, Mad Max-esque landscapes. They were all very disney-tier, as in, you know that no harm will befall on your head, so you can touch it, without getting hurt. In a way, Andreas did a good job representing the collapse of civilization without making anyone feel upset.

I love his works, but at the same time, he is the epitome of a stock artist for a post-apocalyptic city with no pavement (and no sewer system). You should seriously click that video btw.

I couldn't find his social media (except FB), so I guess that he was harassed a lot and probably decided to avoid them? Either way, it was probably a right call.
