Anatomia SWE: Dismember

Why am I Team Dismember? And completely disregard Entombed?

Well, let's start with this song:

 

This song feels like a premonition of sorts of the new direction of Entombed, when they moved towards something they would call Death 'n' Roll. It was a bonus track that was added for the future pressings of the album, but still, Dismember literally BTFO the whole Entombed discography with their debut album. Starting with " Override of the Overture", it doesn't slow down, and straight up to "In Death's Sleep", it's all killers and no fillers. There is groove, there is drive, and catchiness, instead of random buzzsawing.

Dismember actually was as old as Entombed, and they changed their name to Carnage for a while, and released an album "Dark Recollections", which got released the same month as "Left Hand Path". Many Swedish bands were "inspired" by their songs - let me give you an example.

While not exactly the same, the similarity is obvious. But then again, you probably heard the exact same riff in some other Swedeath-worshipping band. There is more, of course, and the whole album gives you this strange feeling, "hey, I've heard it somewhere else".

 

But why Dismember is better than Entombed? Here's why:

 

1) They never stopped being Death Metal

2) They never recorded "Same Difference" (if you like this album, I'm sorry, but I don't like it)

3) They never released a substandard record as well

4) Even at their most generic, they were still catchier than Entombed 

5) They managed to experiment with their style, without sacrificing their roots

6) They weren't attention whores trying to be a new Metallica, like Entombed was

7) They recorded more than one classic album

8) They are the actual epitome of Swedeath and they present the essence of the style perfectly

9) They knew when to leave, instead of releasing a shit album

10) They returned, but they haven't gone the easy route. If they ever release a new album, it will slay

 

Dismember is THE greatest Swedish band. They never disappointed me for sure.

HAIL DISMEMBER, the kings of Death Metal. I am really tired of treating Entombed like some sort of kings, even when they sold out really quickly, while Dismember never flinched.
