Anatomia SWE: Rogga Johansson Addendum

  

Yesterday, we focused on the main man, today we will discuss the partners in crime. But let's start with a minor analysis of Rogga's style.

Wczoraj pogderałem o ważniaku, dzisiaj będzie o jego partnerach w zbrodni. Ale wpierw napiszmy parę słów odnośnie stylu Roggi.

It would be foolish to dismiss Rogga's style as simply "Dismember worship", as over the years, he went through various phases. Let's say, that his first period was actually about groovy Industrial Death Metal. With Paganizer, he started more in vein of Children of Bodom, rather than your typical Swedish Melodeath. But of course, it was with Paganizer and early Ribspreader, where the classic Swedeath riffing got him famous.

Byłoby głupstwem zbyć styl Roggi jako proste "czczenie Dismembera", gdyż poprzez lata, przeszedł on różne fazy. Zacznijmy od tego, że w początkowych latach grał Groove Industrial Death. Z Paganizer, pierwotnie grał melodyjny Death, ale bardziej zbliżony do Children of Bodom. Ale oczywiście, to właśnie z Paganizer i wczesnym Ribspreader zyskał famę, jako ten, który gra typowy Swedeath.

Among his projects, he actually flirted a lot with Bolt Thrower signature riffing. And after the 00s Swedeath boom, he moved more onto mixing various techniques to his formula, like switching between Doomy and Groovy riffs, returning back to more melodic leads, and adding some Grinding blasting for an effect. And for majority of his projects, he was just toying with the proportions of each of the ingredient. He did add some left-field instruments, like Piano / Keyboards, from time to time.

Wśród jego wielu projektów, na dobrą sprawę dużo flirtował z Bolt Throwerowym, charakterystycznym sznitem. Po boomie w latach '00 na Swedeath, przeszedł bardziej w stworzenie specyficznej mieszanki i własnej formuły, jak np. przeskakiwanie między Doomowymi a Grooviastymi riffami, powrót do bardziej melodyjnych klimatów, oraz dodawanie Grindowego blastowania dla efektu. Większość jego projektów, jest na dobrą sprawą zabawą w ustalaniu odpowiednich proporcji i doboru składników. I zdarzało mu się też dodawanie od czapy takich instrumentów, jak Pianino / Keyboard.

But the main trick that Rogga employs for his music is actually rooted in Punk, and the aforementioned Bolt Thrower. You remember "World Eater" by Bolt Thrower? It starts with a characteristic riff, based on a simple, but dynamic chord progression. Then, it doubles down with adding extra string to make the riff both heavier, but also melodic. This is basically Rogga's style in a nutshell. Many catchy riffs, which would have been a fill-in between the main riffs in other bands, serve here as a skeletal structure, around which, the whole song develops. In that regard, you can say that Rogga is very similar to other artist, who did exactly the same, namely Kurt Cobain, who was also a prolific songwriter. You can seriously say that Rogga is sort-of the Nirvana of Death Metal.

Ale głównym trickiem, który Rogga stosuje w jego muzyce, jest tak naprawdę oparty na Punku, np. wspomniany wcześniej Bolt Thrower. Pamiętacie "World Eater" Bolt Throwera? Zaczyna się od charakterystycznego riffu opartego na prostej, ale dynamicznej progresji. Po czym jest on wzmocniony o dodatkową strunę, która sprawia, że riff staje się cięższy, ale jednocześnie melodyjny. Jest to praktycznie styl Roggi w skrócie. Wiele chwytliwych riffów, które w innych zespołach stanowiłyby przejście od punktu A do B, tutaj pełni szkielet utworów, wokół którego kompozycja się rozwija. W tym sensie, Rogga przypomina mi innego artystę, który robił dokładnie to samo, mianowicie Kurta Cobaina, który również był bardzo płodnym kompozytorem. Można całkiem serio rzec, że Rogga to taka Nirvana Death Metalu.

It's not of course, the only trick. Among others are stuff like, fast-paced rushing with the barrage of noise into the song. It's evident, when Rogga needs to have a filler song between the catchier ones. And another is of course, the tuning. It's very low and bass-driven. The sound makes up for any bullshit. As I always say: "it doesn't matter how you play, it matters how it sounds". But enough about Rogga, let's present his most frequent collaborators. The ranking features the top musicians, as Rogga worked with nearly everyone in the world.

To nie jest oczywiście jego jedyny myk, bo stosuje inne, jak szybka i hałaśliwa gonitwa na wejście, co jest widoczne, jak Rogga chce czymś wypełnić miejsce między lepszymi trackami. I kolejnym jest strojenie. Jest ono bardzo niskie i basowe. To brzmienie zasłania różne niedociągnięcia, bo tak jak mawiam: "nieważne co grasz, tylko jak to brzmi". Ale wystarczy już o Rogga, przejdźmy do rankingu jego klakierów. Nie ma tu wszystkich ludzi, z którymi współpracował, są tylko ci najważniejsi, którzy się pojawiali w jego projektach.

Like I wrote before, it's not EVERYONE, whom Rogga scratched, but then again, that's some nice piece of... Metal history.

Tak jak pisałem wyżej, to nie są WSZYSCY, o których "otarł" się Rogga, ale trzeba przyznać, w sposób kulturalny, bez podtekstu, że jest to niezły kawał... historii Metalu.
