DEBUNKING / DECONSTRUCTING: ILLUD DIVINUM INSANUS

Only english version this time, forgive me

Infamous album, that divided the internet in half, because the forgotten Gods dared to try something else. Back in 2011, people were listening only to A-B-C of Morbid Angel, and they never really cared about F-G-H. "Heretic" is my favorite album by Morbid Angel, and I might have been in the minority, alas I am foreshadowing conclusions wayyy too fast.

This album became the new hatebox, replacing "Cold Lake" by Celtic Frost. I jokingly created a theory that "Cold Lake" was the only album in Celtic Frost discography, where Tom Warriors was really happy about his life, so of course, he hates this album with a passion. Similar thing happened with Illud.

The problem is, this album is not really groundbreaking. Nor really controversial. Alas...

Let's check this song by song.

1.     Omni Potens - intro
2.     Too Extreme! - partially "experimental", but it's more or less a Death Metal song with weird changes
3.     Existo Vulgoré - standard, slightly boring Death Metal song
4.     Blades for Baal - standard, catchy Death Metal song, nobody mentions this song ever?
5.     I Am Morbid - partially "experimental", it wouldn't be controversial if it wasn't so slow
6.     10 More Dead - groovy standard Death Metal song, totally ignored by public
7.     Destructos vs. the Earth / Attack - another controversial song, kinda predictable
8.     Nevermore - this song was known before this album, for like many years, standard Death Metal
9.     Beauty Meets Beast - standard Death Metal, kinda forgettable, but not really bad
10.     Radikult - ultimate controversial song, now this one is actually offensive
11.     Profundis - Mea Culpa - outro

Do you see? Out of 11 songs, there are like 3, that are truly controversial, and even that is questionable. I feel a certain distaste to Mr. Rutan for trying to distance himself from this album, because he actually did a very good job.

Frankly, only "Radikult" deserves scrutiny, everything else is more or less standard Morbid Angel. But okay, the memes happened, people hated it so HARD that they used the hitler meme. And then "Kingdoms Disdained" happened  in 2017. With Tucker on vocals. To no fanfare.

Nobody cared. And frankly, this album is more offensive than Illud, because it has the same song repeated 11 times. And yet, nobody was pleased... You will find plenty of reviews criticizing Illud, but you will rarely find any review really praising "Kingdom Disdained" as a return to form, even if people liked the fact, that the greatest band in the existence returned back to their F-G-H style. IMO, the worst thing a band of such esteem can do, is to record an average album, therefore my reaction to K was lukewarm at best, but I didn't do any hate campaign on the internet because of it.

It's been 8 years since then. Frankly, don't expect another Morbid Angel album. Part of the reason is probably because Trey has serious personal problems. If you don't know what I'm talking about, I'll have to pinpoint you to Uncle Google and Official Morbid Angel Fanclub about the states of things.

Don't join the gangbang of haters, who have nothing better to do, but piss on your beloved bands. These bands gave you joy, inspiration, they make you feel alive. And I'm not saying you should excuse everything that the bands do. But joining the Morbid Angel hatewagon went way too far, and will be always the lowest time in Metal history, and I cannot understand it. Feel free to explain it in the comments.

I feel a little relieved, as I was bottling up these feelings for a while. Sorry if it was a little too negative.

Cheers, and love for Metal.
