The Upstarts: Nuclear Revenge
Due to too many posts waiting in the queue, I decided to release them this week in the global language only - Polscy czytelnicy wybaczcie!
It's also not all I have in-the-waiting, but it have to suffice for now
Nuclear Revenge is a newbie band from Spain that apparently split up this year (2025), having been in existence for a decade. They play the good ole... Well, what exactly do they play indeed?
You can hear the early progenitors of Black Metal reminiscent of early Bathory and the likes. There is this evil Thrash Metal that Slayer and Dark Angel pioneered. Bah, you can even smell the embryonic Death Metal in the way that Possessed and early Death did.
Alas, my instinct, and my gut tells me that I should label it as (extreme) Speed Metal, mostly due to the raw production doing its best to mimic that "dated" sound, as well as razorsharp riffs playing at breakneck speed. It's not satanic / occult enough to be called Black, it's not tight and technical enough to be Thrash, and it lacks the visceral hunger of Death. Speed Metal it is. And frankly, the band is a good example of what I mean, when I say "NECRO METAL"!!!
Not many bands managed to perfectly encapsulate what was going on in the mid of 80s, and the revolutionary movement that Venom started, despite the fact that the musicians weren't even born then (the oldest member was born in 1994, what a year it was). Even the cover art is a shout out to the classic pictures that presented barbarians and fantasy stuff.
What the band might lack in riff department they more than even out in a general feel and the atmosphere. It's a nice snack - it might not satiate, but is exactly what one might need at the moment.
